Objective:

Firewire Connectivity via Thunderbolt

Pete's Pick

$29 Apple MD464LL/A Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter

Discussion

This is pretty niche. It provides a Firewire 800 over Thunderbolt.

If you are running a new-ish Mac with Thunderbolt 3 or Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C / USB Type-C) you will also need a a Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) adapter.

This can be useful for connecting to firewire devices and for recovery of firewire equipped Macs via Firewire Target Disk Mode. This device also supports Firewire 800 to Firewire 400 adapters and provides 7W of power for bus-powered firewire devices which enables transfer and charging of firewire iPods.

Supports Macs running Mac OS X 10.7.4 and later with Thunderbolt bolts.
